Privacy Policy
PhotoSteps is a local-first Android application operated by Miha Kocevar in Slovenia. This policy explains what the app processes, where information is stored, and what happens when you export content or contact support.
The short version
PhotoSteps does not require an account and does not upload your projects, photographs, instructions, or diagnostic logs to the operator. Your project data remains on your device unless you explicitly export or share it.
Information processed on your device
PhotoSteps processes and stores the following information locally:
- project titles, descriptions, favorites, covers, and timestamps;
- photographs you take or select, plus generated preview thumbnails;
- step titles, notes, ordering, and optional captions for reverse order;
- appearance, gallery, workflow, and export preferences;
- generated PDFs and records of exports;
- an install-scoped eligibility decision used to preserve future Premium access for qualifying early installations; and
- sanitized technical diagnostics about app errors.
Diagnostic records may contain technical operation names, timestamps, app and platform versions, error messages, and internal identifiers. PhotoSteps filters paths, URIs, secrets, and user-authored project text from those records. The Diagnostic logs option appears in Settings only after PhotoSteps encounters and records an error; it is not shown when there are no recorded errors. Logs are not sent automatically. A saved log is a plain-text file containing every sanitized diagnostic entry included in the export, so you can review its complete contents before choosing whether to attach it to a support email.
Permissions
| Permission | Why PhotoSteps uses it |
|---|---|
| Camera | To photograph a project step when you choose Take Photo. |
| Photos and media | To import step photos, inspect PhotoSteps export albums, and save numbered gallery exports. |
| Files and sharing | To save generated PDFs or diagnostic logs to a location you choose, share selected images and PDFs, and let you attach a saved log using an app you choose. |
| Internet | To open the legal and support pages when you explicitly select them. The free release does not upload project data. |
You can deny permissions, although the related feature will not work.
Exports and sharing
When you save photographs to a gallery album, save a PDF or diagnostic file, share a selected image or PDF, or attach a saved diagnostic log to an email, the destination receives that content at your direction. The destination may be another app, cloud provider, email service, or storage provider with its own privacy practices. PhotoSteps does not control those services. Gallery exports are not removed automatically when you delete a project.
Accounts, advertising, analytics, and payments
The free release has no PhotoSteps account system, advertisements, behavioral analytics, crash-report upload service, subscription processing, or active RevenueCat connection. If a later release introduces an online or paid service, this policy will be updated before that service is enabled.
Device backups and retention
Project data remains until you delete a project, clear the app's storage, or uninstall PhotoSteps. Android or a device manufacturer may include eligible app data in system backups or device transfers according to your device and account settings. The operator cannot access or delete those backups. Files and gallery images you exported must be deleted from their destination separately.
Support communications
Selecting the support email action opens your installed email app. PhotoSteps does not send a message or attach a file automatically. If you choose to email support@fatcode.org, the operator receives your email address and the information and attachments you include. This information is used to answer and secure the support request, and retained only as long as reasonably needed for support, abuse prevention, or legal obligations. A reviewed diagnostic log may be attached if you wish to help the developer diagnose a problem. Do not send photographs, confidential project content, or diagnostic logs unless they are necessary and you have reviewed them first.
This website
These static pages use no advertising, analytics, cookies, contact forms, or external fonts. The hosting provider may process standard request information such as IP address, browser details, requested page, and time to deliver and protect the site. The operator does not use that information for advertising or profiling.
Children
PhotoSteps is intended for a general audience aged 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has sent personal information through a support request, contact the operator so it can be removed where applicable.
Your choices and rights
You control local content through the app and Android settings. Depending on your location, you may also have rights over personal information included in support communications, including access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, and complaint to a supervisory authority. Contact support@fatcode.org to make a request.
Security and changes
PhotoSteps uses app-private storage and Android platform protections, but no storage method is risk-free. Keep your device secured and maintain your own copies of important exports. Material policy changes will be posted here with a revised effective date before they take effect where required.
